Ugly Shoe of the Week: Prada

Prada has produced a real ‘Marmite’ collection, both for this season and the coming S/S 2013 range – with its naive hand-drawn flowers and clonky shoe silhouettes. We have to admire their designers’ bravery: In many ways it’s a daring, ground-breaking set of pieces – and we love many of the vintagey accessories and handbags that are landing in the shops. But others just leave us cold, boggling at the brutal-looking shapes.

This ‘dipped’ Oxford shoe is one example. Almost a blend of two shoes, it looks as though one perfectly attractive menswear-inspired shoe has been dropped in a large vat of molten candle wax – and pulled out just too late! It’s almost a work of art – but not one that our editor would want to display on her feet. It’s priced at £627 if you’re actually a fan…
