We’ve seen some very beautiful shoes from across the pond today, but this ghastly specimen from Betsey Johnson definitely wasn’t there when God created beautiful shoes. The worst thing about it is the excess fabric, which is ruffled into a sort of ‘bustle’ at the back that’s so grim we didn’t even want to subject you to a rear view: you’ll need to check out the Betsey Johnson site if you want to do that to your eyes.
There is a time and a place for black boudoir lace and having seen the ‘Lizzie’ boot, we’re now pretty confident that stuck on top of khaki canvas is definitely not it. We’re not loving the slimline heel either – far too flimsy for this top-heavy shoe – which looks like it could snap at any moment: there is also a rather out-of-place tortoiseshell effect going on that does not help matters at all.
In short, we won’t be spending $149 (£98) on it.
