daxParticipantI found a can of drink kept in the fridge to use as a foot roller helped along with calf stretches. Stand on the bottom stair, just on the balls of your feet (as if youre about to perform a dive) and flex up and down for a minute or two several times a day. It is incredibly painful and I struggled more first thing in the morning and if sat still for too long

daxParticipantWhen your GP said ‘make another appt to discuss that’, that is what she wanted you to do. She obviously thought that a cursory glance at the end of another discussion wouldn’t be enough, so you need to do just that!

daxParticipantNot sure it would help someone with really bad arthritis, but the Back On Track products really help me with my mild arthritis-worth considering in addition to pharmaceuticals if you’ve not already.

daxParticipantDefinitely go see a physiotherapist (probably have to be private). As suggested above, I was watched walking up and down, given exercises, and regular visits to check progress was being made. Got me walking correctly after a broken ankle.

daxParticipantHad it for the last 18 months.
Tried various insoles in my boots and ended up with some from this site. They helped, also got some private physio and do things like stand on the lip of a stair on just the ball of my foot and lower my body down then lift up, also place my foot against the wall with my heel on the floor and my toes up the wall and sort of lean in to it.
It was agony for a year but its just a mild dull pain now.

daxParticipantGood one, had a scrub with pumice stone tonight and the hot itchy feeling has gone, along with an amount of skin. Thanks.

daxParticipantYeah, binned the original shoes, now have two identical pairs of everyday shoes (walking shoes Karrimor type things) so they don’t get worn on consecutive days. In an interesting side note as I knew I was going to do this I bought cheapo shoes (own brand rather than Merrill) at half the price and have noticed 0 difference in performance! Well interesting to me anyway.

daxParticipantWell the Dr has looked at it and didn’t suggest anything else, and it does respond to the appropriate treatment just getting it to sod off for good seems to be impossible. Any ideas about what else it might be?

daxParticipantFor most people off the shelf insoles will do. I think some “podiatrists” like to over sell custom insoles even though there is a little evidence to suggest that they are any better than off the shelf ones.
I am one of those people who has hand made insoles from a Podiatrist, and yes recently they set me back £150 a pair. I initially got a pair on the NHS back in 1993 and they cost me a princely sum of £0-00.
I can only go off the little evidence, as in my own personal experience, and say that for me the insoles are worth every penny.
Before I had the insoles made in 1993, I used to have severe knee pain in both knees. Even walking up stairs was painful. However with a biomechanical assessment of the way I walk, by a physio and podiatrist, it was agreed by both medical professionals that I would benefit from bespoke prosthetics, made for free on the NHS. The only reason I bought a further pair 24 years later was that the NHS was rammed busy and my old podiatrist had gone private and I liked what he did for me all those years ago.
For anybody who is referred by a physio and a podiatrist then I believe that bespoke prosthetics in their shoes will greatly enhance their quality of life by reducing knee pain fairly quickly.
As for people with no medical reason for hand made prosthetic insoles, I highly recommend footreviver insoles. I have a pair in all my shoes and boots.
