BrinnyParticipantDon’t know why, but a paddle in sea water worked for me when nothing else helped.

BrinnyParticipantRest, I’m afraid! When I did mine, I was hobbling for quite some time. Then while you’re resting, research some rehab exercises. I went to a BUPA running clinic & got a load of exercises. Standing with your toes on a step & raising & lowering – that sort of thing. I still do my stretches every day while cleaning my teeth – multi-tasking!
It took me 3 months to be able to run at all. Then I went to a proper running shop & did gait analysis & got some proper shoes – I did mine running uphill in old squishy shoes.
Do not rush your recovery! Take it seriously as it IS serious! (Says, someone, who pulled something in their hip yesterday running across a plowed field & who should be a quarter of the way through a half marathon this time tomorrow…)

BrinnyParticipantA bunion is an extra bone that has grown on the side of your foot. How can a piece of plastic get rid of that? I had surgery – it didn’t actually hurt as much as the bunion did. To get the operation you have to tell your doctor that it is excruciatingly painful and stops you from doing everyday activities. It wasn’t until after the op I realized how much I had stopped doing because of the constant pain. I did try an orthotic once, made by a chiropodist but it didn’t make any difference.

BrinnyParticipantI suffered with it for a number of years and tried all sorts before I found anything that worked, ultrasound, steroid injections in heels, splints, anyway the one and only thing that worked was foot orthotics-(arch supports). Initially, I had bespoke rigid casts made (hugely expensive) but in more enlightened times I found a podiatrist (extra qualified version of chiropodist who understands biomechanics) who recommended some flexible comfortable orthotics which have a three-color different height of insert that you slot into a top piece like a supportive inner sole. Racking my name for the brand name but I have tried off the peg ones from boots etc but they were nowhere near as good these the podiatrist gave me at a worth every penny price of just £100.00.

BrinnyParticipantI sympathise – I get it too, and it’s horrible! I’m sure I was able to get hydrocortisone cream over the counter at a pharmacy, but failing that, would your doc not issue a prescription for collection at a local pharmacy?

BrinnyParticipantMy dog has athletes tongue, can anyone tell me how to help him?
More seriously, I have hot feet so wearing safety boots all day leaves my feet in a constant state of mushroom cultivation. A daily wash with anti-dandruff shampoo works wonders, better than the creams and powders, once my feet are thoroughly dry I moisturise the area with E45 cream to stop cracking and itching. I do this daily in summer, maybe twice a week in winter.

BrinnyParticipantOh, I forgot, I used to have an iheal. I forget how it worked…something to do with ultrasound or something…anyway, I used it on my Achilles and it worked really well. But I don’t think you can get them any more, so pointless post! I put mine down for a second in the house while I quickly got something else, and I never found it again.

BrinnyParticipantAhh this sounds like mine! Thank you, I will send a phone request in to my GP and see what they say when they call.

BrinnyParticipantAhh brill, thank you. I will call my doctors tomorrow and see what they say. I’m hoping that so raising and resting may ease it and I won’t have to go down this route! Xx

BrinnyParticipantI said to my dad I was thinking GP but I thought (and he agreed) they would just send me to A&E for an x-ray so we may as well miss the GP part but I don’t want to block A&E for nothing. As I said, I can bend my toes and walk on it, it’s just swollen and painful (my second bone next to my big toe).
