Iv been suffering from plantar fasciitis for quite a while now. Fitness definitely helped me-doc said to work glutes and thigh muscles, I’ve been seeing a PT and doing some boxing since (and changed my car which wasn’t an intentional intervention but it was my right foot and I commute). I get the occasional twinge-mostly if I have been walking in boots (with insoles but I need to change them).

Are you still using the same shoes? If so then bin them.

Have you considered that it might not be Athlete’s foot?

So I thought a swim last night would be a good idea.
I went on the basis that if it hurt I’d get straight out even if I just did 1 length. Actually it felt really nice and I had a very gentle relaxing swim.
Everything else has loosened up nicely but my knee isn’t thanking me for it today, even though it didn’t hurt at all yesterday?!
I will play sensible and be good until the physio next week.

What’s wrong with ankle socks? Or am I missing something?

I started getting something awful on one foot this winter, the skin sloughed off and the Boots pharmacist thought I had scalded my foot, but the treatment made it worse. The NHS Minor Injuries Dr said it was athlete’s foot, but it was a shed load of skin coming away.

They gave me antibiotics, antifungal cream, and steroid cream. It did not do a deal, despite treating several times a day. I was fed up!

A friend gave me an old remedy. A slosh of cider vinegar (the type that still has the ‘mother’ in) in warm water, soak feet. It was an almost instantaneous improvement. It took the mush out of it. I thought the solution would sting the raw flesh, but it was OK. Much better than the treatment from the hospital.

The open wound took weeks to heal over, but after a couple of days of soaking with cider vinegar solution, it was obviously ‘dead’ and it was just a case of a wound healing.

      Good luck!

@martin Since my teens I’ve what can only really be described as tender feet. They bruise easily for want of a better description, I get quite a bit of toe joint pain including occasional toe and ankle gout flare ups, heels especially get very sore from standing or walking too much on hard ground. I can’t stand much pressure on the tendons (heel hooking, hard leather shoes against Achilles, running on sand etc). I still get odd sharp twinges of plantar ligament pain (basically cramp/tension related) but I haven’t had a proper limping and falling down when getting out of bed flare up in years. Soft shoes and a bit of rest when they’re sore manages them fine. Your experience may differ but mine seem quite manageable although my expectations are adjusted.

Try the cheap insoles, you’ve nothing to lose. Stretching feet and calves especially and every time before getting up from chairs and bed to walk will yield the biggest gains in my experience.

I’ve had it on and off over the years, mostly it was triggered from running. Stretching calves helps. Pain killers help. Soft soled shoes/trainers or insoles in sturdier shoes/boots. Never bothered with anything fancy, cheepy shop-bought 1/4″ gell/foam insoles without much structure were plenty to take the edge off it even when it was bad.

I’ve got a spiky plastic ball that’s golf ball sized and that helps my pf 😊 Like some other posters I buy off-the-peg orthotics from shoewawa and they are just as good as my custom made pair. You do have to replace them regularly though as they flatten down over time but it costs a lot less than buying new pair of shoes everytime.

Mine is £25 an hour and she generally has discounts for block bookings. She’s ace-going to a PT opened up all sorts of stuff I hadn’t really considered exercise wise (I hate classes and I find yoga and pilates beyond dull) like boxing and tons of exercises that don’t need equipment and can be done anywhere. I had an initial block and then couldn’t afford it for a bit so went boxing and right now I have some annual leave so going back to her for a few sessions-OH is going to her as well.

Doctors tend to work on a process of elimination so I’d perhaps go back and check if his/her original diagnosis still stands. My thinking is that it might be a different type of infection albeit still fungal.

If you’re really badly infected, change socks every day

Serious question. Do people not do this routinely?

Pain is at the back of my knee and to the right/outside when going downhill/stairs. In general it’s a bit sore all over now, if it seizes up a bit, when I try to stretch it, initially it’s a bit like cramp or like something is going to snap if I try to extend my leg fully.
Frozen peas is a good shout – I keep intending to buy some but then end up at the shop by work not home and I think they would defrost on the journey in between!
I have an amazing osteo already but will look into physio – if anyone can recommend one in Surrey or Bucks please feel free to let me know
