debbyParticipantI use the foot arch supports in all my shoes. The best for me are the ones with the hard plastic arch under them.
It is worse when my calves need stretching.
Diclofenac helps too.

debbyParticipantMake sure you hot wash your socks and bedding and towels and bathmat at 60 or above, and give your shoes a good clean and disinfect. Otherwise you treat your foot and then get it back again.

debbyParticipantMagnesium spray can help. Also a pair of soothing massaging gel insoles 🙂

debbyParticipantYou need to get the disc sorted sooner rather than later. If the disc is impinging on the sciatic nerve then its going to cause damage that can take a long time, if ever, to repair. When I slipped a disc, I got raging sciatica: at it’s worst, I lost the feeling down the right leg and was unable to walk.
I was very fortunate to be able to go private for the treatment – they had me in hospital and under the knife within a week of the seeing the MRI results.
The nerve took a long time to heal, in fact, 12 years on, I still have no feeling in the middle toe of my right foot.

debbyParticipantI have tried numerous supplements none have helped me. I take dicloflex SR which is hard on the tummy combined with paracetamol and take Lansoprazole to protect my tummy. Dicloflex does increase stroke risk. I think your partner needs to see his GP and hope they refer him to a pain clinic. There are loads of options for pain relief and people vary and works for one is not suitable for another.
My father does well on a ibuprofen and paracetamol. Once pain symptoms become permanent it best IME to never allow them to get out of hand I do this by trying to plan ahead when I am going to do things I know make me sorest and go up to my maximum dose before I overdo it. On supplements, I know a couple of people are doing much better on cannabis oil from Holland And Barrett I am going to give that a try at some point. -

debbyParticipantI dislocated my patella at the start of last year due to trauma. It was painful initially and the doctor referred me to a consultant who prescribed physio. It would settle and then flare for the next year and then start of this year I popped it out again and have done so 3 times since
I think you need to get your knees looked at and ask for a referral. It takes forever and I almost paid for a private MRI but mine is currently behaving itself. -

debbyParticipantGet some support socks sold as anti DVT socks when flying. In the evening elevate them.

debbyParticipantThanks for the replies guys much appreciated!
So im guessing the conclusion is that if I wear a bunion corrector it could make things worse by adding extra pressure onto my big toe? Seeing as tight boots caused my bunion in the first place I can imagine making them even tighter by wearing a corrector would not be a good idea at all. Cannot even trust tv adverts nowadays.. snake oil everywhere!

debbyParticipantWhen I fractured my femur and had it pinned it was physio who got me walking again, he was a hard taskmaster and I went weekly for about 12 weeks immediately after my release from the hospital. He used to make me walk up and down the corridor until I was moving properly and also used to measure the angles in all my leg movements to check I’d been doing the exercises at home! I hated every minute of physio but it really did work.
One thing to consider is the muscle wastage as your leg will not have been working as much, I started seeing a sports massage person 6 months ago (15 years after my accident) and she was finding lots of weak and damaged muscle and tissue which is gradually improving with exercises and stretching. That is making a huge difference to my straightness. -

debbyParticipantForgot about this. Ive had a steroid injection in my foot – was warned it might be painful, but it wasn’t bad, just a bit uncomfortable. And it did work!

debbyParticipantThe only issue with ariats is the ones I have dont have masses of grip if you actually need them for lots of walking.

debbyParticipantHigh heeled shoes?! I absolutely agree re shortening and supporting the tendon will really help. I used orthotic insoles as opposed to very high heels cos I’d just fall over a lot!
Cheapo cold compression, get a wine bottle cover. They usually have a velcro fastening, perfect for wrapping around the ankle and forgetting about it.
