I had a painful knee last week and used a gel ice pack that I have had in the freezer. Sat with my leg up and it wrapped around my knee (over my jeans) twice a day for 3 days, all better now!

My colleague does, the trouble is we have rubbish floors so he bounces me up and down and makes me feel quite seasick when he does it…
He drinks a lot of strong coffee, I don’t feel this helps :p

I do but only when I’m really anxious!

If I was you I would have a look at orthotic insoles, as they align your legs better so there is less strain.

You can either pay a lot and have walking pressures measured on a pressure pad and orthotics made specifically for you, or you can go on ebay and get some for around £10!

I like the ones with a firm plastic arch to support your foot arch and a softer top.

Sorry, you’re suffering OP I have no experience of bunions other than a work colleague (in her 20s) who had the op years ago and returned to work in a wheelchair. I was shocked as I didn’t really know what a bunion was or what the surgery involved. I think she made a full recovery in time.

Marks and Spencer used to do extra wide knee highs but I can’t see any on their website at the moment. Maybe try another brand to the one you have been using?

I think it’s really important to understand the biomechanics, and then think how your habits cause the biomechanical problems to occur causing plantar fasciitis. This video is a really good starting point for the foot (it’s dense, probably needs a few watches): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8ttNMNAX5k
The gist is that the foot is sort of a ‘tensegrity’ structure, and our modern life tend to collapse this structure.

Ah thanks guys, some really helpful stuff there. I did slather a thick body butter on last night with socks over, (some bamboo ones, as I don’t think I have any 100% cotton ones) but as I’ve been running lately I want to continue now I’m home and this will set me back. Kat – that makes sense as I was wearing open back sandals and we walked a lot, that’s what kicked it all off.

I’m glad your OH is fighting fit again but I’m now thinking of making my OH have the op (he doesn’t actually have a bunion) if it will leave him ‘faster and fitter’ Currently, he’s neither fast nor fit and I keep trying to chivvy him along the exercise path but he’s a deskbound workaholic.
